Time is of essence and time is running out. Gracie Cole, a young girl on a mission stumbles upon enough information to put Bobby Wright, a small town’s drug dealer, away for a long time. Pretending to be looking for a way to make easy money, Gracie’s plan to deceive—all part of an elaborate ruse--quickly goes awry and things go terribly wrong. To insure her silence, Bobby sends her to the swamp—to die. An attraction instigated as a deception suddenly turns into a matter of survival.
Sarah Cole, Gracie’s mother, hired to clean up the operations at Safe Families, an organization designed to counsel and assist young mothers on their road to recovery, finds herself in a devastating situation. Upon her arrival at her new job, she soon discovers that the office of Safe Families has been poorly managed and could be the cause of clients slipping through the system, not to recovery, but down a dismal road leading up to child neglect and deaths of innocent children.
Alarmed and angry, Sarah reluctantly begins working with Paul Hines, the local district attorney, to stop the festering drug problems. Tensions surface as she embarks upon this combined effort with Paul, wrestling with the fact that he is obnoxiously flirtatious.
Slowly, he realizes what a cad he has been as his attraction towards Sarah turns into something more serious. Sarah recognizes his sincerity in wanting to rid the town of its drug problem, and she finds a peaceful coexistence with him. They combine forces to fight the scourges of the existing drug culture.
In this midst of this overwhelming predicament, what could Sarah lose? Plenty. As Paul’s feelings for Sarah grows, does she respond and does he find his heart’s most fervent wish—love?
